Capstone Project: Part I Proposal

EDTC 6332 Practicum in Educational Technology

Juanita R. Martinez

Performance Problem

At the Donna Independent School District, when new teachers are employed they go through a rigorous 5 day training before veteran teachers are scheduled to return for a new school year. During this training, teachers are taught how to use a wide array of programs that are implemented by the district for lesson planning, grade and attendance submission, and e-mail for communication. Aside from learning about the necessary programs teachers utilize while teaching they are also trained on School Safety, Classroom Management, Sexual Harassment, and PDAS. Once new teachers have completed the trainings. Veteran teachers return to campus and everyone is provided another 3 to 4 days of training for teacher development. By this time new teachers have received an overwhelming amount of information to process and aside from the normal nerves that come from meeting your first batch of students, new teachers may feel uneasy about everything they’ve learned. The proposal is to create a fully web based training on TEAMS the current program being utilized by the district for grade and attendance submission. The new teachers will have access to this training, at their own time and convenience to learn all the necessary requirements for success.

Viable Solution

Solution 1: Provide web based TEAMS training for the upcoming new teachers. An asynchronous training that will be provided to learn or reinforce any miscommunication with the instruction on how to configure schedules, create assignments, input grades, and submit classroom attendance.

Solution 2: Modify the existing form of instruction that may be available either paper based or face to face administration to include the instruction on how to configure schedules, create assignments, input grades, and submit attendance via web based instruction.

Solution 2

Description of the solution

Provide web based TEAMS training for the upcoming new teachers. An asynchronous training that will be provided to learn or reinforce any miscommunication with the instruction on how to configure schedules, create assignments, input grades, and submit classroom attendance.

Modify the existing form of instruction that may be available either paper based or face to face administration to include the instruction on how to configure schedules, create assignments, input grades, and submit attendance via web based instruction.

Internal (personal) strengths in relation to the solution

Have experience in designing a web based learning environment for asynchronous administration

Maintaining a home with a family.

Time Constraint due to:

being enrolled in final 6 hours

working on E-Portfolio

Maintaining a home with a family.

External (environmental) opportunities in relation to the solution

I provide link for training to DISD technology dept. to upload to district website.

Access to TEAMS Software and Instruction Manuals.

DISD computer labs are available for training sessions.

Access to prior years paper based and face to face instruction documents.

External (environmental) threats in relation to the solution

Any TEAMS program updates would need instruction update.

New teachers may not be enthusiastic about online instruction.

District may not make it a requirement for teachers to partake in the New teacher instructional course for TEAMS

Out of date material due to any updates to TEAMS program

Needing to print materials for synchronous meeting

Securing a computer lab on district that would house all new teachers.

Scheduling training that would not interfere with others.

District may not make it a requirement for teachers to partake in the New teacher instructional training for TEAMS.

Your chosen solution

Provide web based TEAMS training for the upcoming new teachers. An asynchronous training that will be provided to learn or reinforce any miscommunication with the instruction on how to configure schedules, create assignments, input grades, and submit classroom attendance.

Reasons

This solution will provide DISD new teachers the ability to learn how to utilize the TEAMS program from anywhere they can access the web, at their own time and convenience. Without having to meet face to face synchronously and provide materials such printouts of instructional manuals.

Deliverables

Please describe your deliverables. What does the final project look like? What is the final project made up of?

This training will be provided asynchronous using Weebly for the housing of the TEAMS training, a link will then be provided to Donna ISD for placement on the district webpage. New teachers will then be able to log on to the website and begin training.
